Improvisations on Chopin

Chopin with improvisations

Improvisations on classical music themes have long been forgotten. Pianists rather look for perfection of performance, increase the speed, broaden the dynamics. But they always stick to the original.

As I played hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours of Frédéric Chopin’s music, repeating passages that required special work, I began to naturally depart from the text and add my own phrases, new harmonies, and rhythms. This is how I began to improvise. My intention is to try to hear Chopin’s music expanded by today’s experiences. I pose the question: how would Chopin have composed if he had lived not 39 years but, say, 60? How far would he have gone in his discoveries. ? My improvisations on Chopin’s works are fully spontaneous, each time they go in a different direction, but they always stick to the essence of the music of this brilliant artist.

The program of the recital is completed with my compositions created between 1958 and 1993.
