“Threnody in Memory of Krzysztof Penderecki” for two pianos and string quartet by Zygmunt Krauze / PREMIERE

On December 16, 2021 (Thursday) at 7:30 pm, the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio will host a concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of Zygmunt Krauze’s artistic work, organized by the Kwadrofonik Association.

During the event, we will hear works by Zygmunt Krauze performed by the Lutosławski Piano Duo (Emilia Karolina Sitarz and Bartek Wąsik) and the Silesian Quartet (Szymon Krzeszowiec, Arkadiusz Kubica, Łukasz Syrnicki, Piotr Janosik).

The highlight of the programme will be the premiere of the composer’s new work, “Threnody in Memory of Krzysztof Penderecki”, written especially for this concert. Zygmunt Krauze says of this composition: “The idea was born spontaneously immediately after the tragic news of the Master’s death. The planned composition is meant to express the energy, strength and determination that constituted Penderecki’s creative foundation. At the same time, it expresses the pain after the loss of the great composer. It is a work in five segments, referring to the ancient Greek literary form of the threnody: exordium, laudatio, comploratio, consolatio and exhortatio. The work in memory of Krzysztof Penderecki will not contain any stylistic allusions to his work. The whole is conveyed in my personal musical language of a strongly emotional character”.

Additionally, we will hear compositions by Tomasz Sikorski and Claude Debussy.

The event is organized by Kwadrofonik Association.

The concert is co-organized by Polish Radio Program 2, which will broadcast the event. PWM Edition is a partner of the event.

Admission is free, and all details can be found on Lutosławski Piano Duo’s profile and on Polish Radio Program 2 website.

Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport from the Cultural Promotion Fund, as part of the “Music” programme, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
